Preserve America Designation

The City of Williamsburg has been awarded federal designation as a “Preserve America” community for its economic development preservation activities. A “Preserve America” community is one that protects and celebrates its heritage, uses its historic assets for economic development and community revitalization, and encourages people to experience and appreciate local historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs. Congress has approved up to $5 million for Preserve America grants in the FY 2007 U.S. Department of the Interior appropriations bill. The grants are designed to support a variety of activities related to heritage tourism and innovative approaches to the use of historic properties as educational and economic assets. For more information visit the Preserve America website or contact the Williamsburg Office of Economic Development.
