Higher Education

There are four colleges and universities offering four-year degree programs within the Hampton Roads region. 

The College of William and Mary

William & Mary is located in the City of Williamsburg with an enrollment of approximately 7,500 students and a student-faculty ratio of 12:1.  The College is ranked 6th in U.S. News & World Report’s 2006 Ranking of the top national public universities. 

 

 

Christopher Newport University: 

CNU is located in Newport News, VA, roughly 25 miles away.  Over 4,800 students are enrolled and the average class size is 25 students. 

Hampton University:

HU is located in Hampton, VA, about 32 miles away.  HU serves approximately 6,087 students with a student-faculty ratio of 16:1. 

Old Dominion University:

ODU is located in Norfolk, VA, roughly 45 miles away.  Approximately 20,802 students are enrolled and the student-faculty ratio is 16:1.

 


There are two Community Colleges located within the Hampton Roads region.  Each college is affiliated with the Virginia Community College System.  These two-year institutions offer associate degrees, college transfer programs, and general study certificates. 

Thomas Nelson Community College:

TNCC’s main campus is located in Hampton, VA, approximately 26 miles away (757-825-2700), and the school current enrolls approximately 8,595 students.  A satellite   office is located in Williamsburg (757-253-4300). Throughout the school year several courses are offered on the campus of The College of William and Mary and online.  Thomas Nelson is planning to open a full, permanent campus in the Greater Williamsburg Area in 2007.

Paul D. Camp Community College                             

PDCCC has campuses located in Franklin, Suffolk, and Smithfield, VA  (757-925-6340), with an enrollment of approximately 1,525 students.  The closest campus to Williamsburg, the Smithfield campus, is approximately 46 miles away.
