Tourism Financing Opportunities

City of Williamsburg

  • Tourism Development Fund (TDF)
    The purpose of the Tourism Development Fund (TDF) is to increase patronage to restaurants, attractions, hotels, and events in the City of Williamsburg through financial assistance and reinvestment in tourism products, place-making projects, and public-private partnerships. The TDF grant program is currently closed (see the 2023 awards here). 
  • Tourism Promotion Contingency Fund
    This grant program was designed to increase overnight visitation to the City of Williamsburg by providing startup funding for the launch of new events/project or funding expanded and/or new elements to existing events/projects. It is not designed to provide year over year support of repeat projects/activities. This is a rolling grant. Applications are accepted year-round unless otherwise noted.
  • Williamsburg Area Arts Commission (WAAC)
    Through its annual grant program, the WAAC welcomes all 501(c)(3) arts and cultural organizations that serve the Williamsburg area to apply for supplementary funding for a project or performance which meets WAAC grant requirements. The grant process opens in early October every year. 
  • Williamsburg Public Art Council (WPAC)
    The WPAC advises City Council on the acquisition, donation, commission and/or funding of public art, the acceptance of gifts and loans of public art and the deaccession of public art from the City’s collection. If you would like to request approval and funding from the City for public art on your property, please complete the online application. This is a rolling grant. Applications are accepted year-round unless otherwise noted.

Virginia Tourism Corporation

  • Tourism Development Financing Program
    Gap financing opportunities from the Virginia Tourism Corporation are available for development projects that fill a tourism void in the local economy. For more information on this grant, visit the website.
  • Microbusiness Marketing Leverage Program
    The Virginia Tourism Corporation is offering these grant funds to spur economic activity and travel across the Commonwealth to support tourism-oriented small businesses and organizations. This grant is part of effort to drive shoulder season visitation and overnight visitation during the months of September to May. Check the VTC website for the grant timeline.
  • Marketing Leverage Program
    The Virginia Tourism Corporation is offering these grant funds to spur economic activity and overnight travel across the Commonwealth.  This program is designed to create public private partnerships and leverage matching marketing dollars to promote Virginia as a vibrant destination with robust visitor experiences.  All funded programs must use the Virginia is for Lovers logo on advertising and marketing materials.  Further information on this requirement can be found in the program Terms and Conditions.   • Virginia Special Events and Festivals Program
    The Virginia Special Events & Festival Sponsorship Program purpose is to assist with marketing and production of established Virginia special events and festivals.  Preference is given to special events and festivals that have a significant and positive economic impact on the Virginia local community with significant local/regional cash or in-kind match.
