City of Williamsburg Welcomes New Member to EDA Board of Directors
The City Council has appointed a new member to its seven-member Economic Development Authority: Harold Philipsen.
Philipsen, a native of the Netherlands, is a long-time wealth management advisor at Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company. He lives in the City with his wife Tracy and sons Bas and Finn. He is a member of the Board of Directors for The Williamsburg Winery in James City County and the Eagle’s Nest Foundation which aims to promote experiential learning for young people.
"We are grateful business-savvy residents like Harold step up to help steer and bolster the City’s Economic Development Authority," Mayor Paul Freiling said.
The EDA works to address the needs and concerns of local businesses and to find ways to help entrepreneurs while marketing the City to new businesses.
Although the EDA was chartered by the Williamsburg City Council in 1975 and its members appointed by Council, the EDA is its own distinct political subdivision. Members serve four-year terms. The EDA meets every second Wednesday of the month at 3 p.m.
Current members of the Board of Directors include:
- Adam Steely, Chair
- Rick Overy, Vice Chair
- Harold Philipsen
- David Trichler
- John Cale
- Adria Vanhoozier
- Robert "Robby" Willey
